Extra Credit Homework!!

1. Write a grammatically correct sentence:  5 points

2. Write a grammatically correct sentence with an awesome adjective:  10 points

3. Write a grammatically correct sentence with a compound subject:  10 points

4. Write a grammatically correct sentence with a compound subject and two awesome adjectives:  15 points

5. Write a grammatically correct sentence with a compound subject, at least two awesome adjectives, and a simile or any type of figurative language (yes, the adjectives can be used in your figurative language): 20 points

6. Write a grammatically correct sentence with a compound predicate, one abstract noun, and an example of figurative language20 points

7. Write a grammatically correct sentence with a compound verb, abstract noun, figurative language AND two vocabulary words from The Hunger Games:  20 points

Requirements

RECEIVE CREDIT FOR ALL SEVEN SENTENCES = 100 EXTRA CREDIT POINTS

  • You may post more than one sentence at a time.
  • Post your sentence in comments with your name
  • Include the sentence number (for credit) from the list above.
  • Extra credit is for spring break only.


Example:
Spring break is a fabulous time of year to get lost in a book.  #2 10 points

The frantic mother and her fuzzy ducklings scurried across the road like their tails were on fire.  #4 15 points

Glossary

Grammatically correct = Capitalization, punctuation, subject, predicate, spelling.

Compound subject/verb= More than one subject or verb in the sentence.  
Example:  Jessica and Julio like to climb and jump on the sand dunes.

Adjective:  A word that describes a noun:  interesting, harsh, long, magical

Verb:  A word that describes an action/state of being:  jump, sing, is, are, write, am, infer

Abstract Noun:  A noun that represents a concept that cannot be experienced with the 5 senses:  freedom, happiness, friendship, beauty

Figurative language:  Simile, metaphor, hyperbole,  idiom, etc.

Hunger Games Commercial Core 4 winners

Students were asked to work in small groups and generate a "commercial" for a fictitious tribute with the purpose of gaining sponsors for the impending Hunger Games.
Requirements included:  Evident teamwork, persuasive methods (appeal to emotions,opinions, facts, statistics), text references (3), skills (3), art, and script.
Each core voted for the team they felt met the challenge most completely.

Ms. Deats Moves to 6th Grade!

This is a long overdue announcement, as I have been teaching 6th grade since August :). 
And, boy, have my 6th grade Language Arts students taught me a lot this year!

A note to my spectacular students:   Come close to the screen.  Closer.  Yes, now listen up, any funny business on this site will result in immediate high level consequences.  Got it?  Good!
